Books I Don't Like
Usually when I find a book I don't like I struggle to finish it. I rarely abandon books, but I do tend to skim read them. Other people do like these since they have recommended them to me...
- Blind Faith by Ben Elton
- Pandaemonium by Christopher Brookmyre.
This was a major disappointment. It's a departure from his usual subjects, but it's just too implausible. Along with that the early part of the book is boring and slow to get going. It gets reasonably exciting towards the end, but it's not finished very well. There are too many obvious questions left unanswered - like how to explain the sheer number of bodies.
This is like a re-vamped 1984. It even mentions it on the way through. I've attempted a few Ben Eltons, but I've never found one I really enjoyed. I don't like him as a stand up comic either, although I thought the Blackadder series that he co-authored was brilliant.
